UPDATED: Why I Withdrew From Rivers APC Governorship Primaries – Fubara

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara

Governor Siminalayi Fubara has announced his withdrawal from the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primaries in Rivers State, saying the decision was taken in the interest of peace, stability and unity in the state.

Fubara, in a statement issued on Wednesday, said his decision followed “deep reflection and extensive consultations” with family, friends and political associates.

The governor described the move as difficult but necessary, stressing that leadership sometimes requires personal sacrifice for the collective good.

“I have taken the difficult but necessary decision to withdraw from the APC gubernatorial primaries. I do so with a full heart and with a firm commitment to support whoever emerges as the candidate of our great party,” he stated.

According to him, Rivers State must be placed above personal ambition, noting that the current political situation demands unity and restraint from all stakeholders.

He also acknowledged the disappointment his supporters may feel, thanking them for their loyalty, sacrifices and unwavering support throughout his political journey.

“Much has indeed been invested and much sacrificed along the way. But please know that your loyalty and trust were never in vain,” he added.

Fubara, however, hinted at underlying pressures surrounding his decision, saying some issues were best left unsaid for the sake of peace.

“As our elders say, not everything a hunter sees in the forest is spoken of in the marketplace. Some truths are best borne quietly, not out of fear, but out of wisdom and restraint for the sake of peace and a greater purpose,” he noted.

He expressed appreciation to the APC leadership and President Bola Tinubu for their support, urging party faithful to remain united ahead of the elections.

He further maintained that his withdrawal should not be interpreted as weakness, insisting it was a deliberate act of sacrifice for the good of the state.

“Let it be clearly understood that I stepped aside not out of weakness, fear, or surrender, but out of conviction and sacrifice so that Rivers State may move forward in peace and unity,” he said.
