LG Election: APC’s Victory Affirmation Of Lagosians’ Trust In Party – Sanwo-Olu
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has described the All Progressives Congress’s (APC) sweeping victory in the July 12 local government elections as a resounding affirmation of Lagosians’ trust in the party’s vision and leadership.
Following the announcement of the official results by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), Sanwo-Olu congratulated the APC for securing all chairmanship seats and 375 out of 376 councillorship positions across the 57 local government areas and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state.
“This outcome is a clear affirmation of the trust and confidence that the good people of Lagos have in the APC’s vision, leadership, and unwavering commitment to inclusive development at the grassroots,” the governor said in a statement.
He extended his gratitude to party leaders, stakeholders, and loyal members, stating that the victory was not just for the party, but for all Lagosians who believe in continuity and people-centred governance.
The governor also commended the newly elected chairmen and councillors, charging them to see their mandate as a call to selfless and accountable service.
“This victory is not an end, but a means to an end—that end being selfless, responsive, and accountable service to the people. Your responsibility is to deliver good governance, uplift communities, and promote the welfare of every resident—regardless of political affiliation,” Sanwo-Olu stated.
He urged party members to remain united, calling on those who lost out during the primaries to continue supporting the party’s goals.
“To our party members who contested in the primaries but were not successful, I salute your courage and commitment to the democratic process.
“I encourage you to remain steadfast, and to work harmoniously with the newly elected officials for the betterment of all. In every contest, there must be winners and others. But within the APC, we must always prioritize unity above personal ambition. That is the only way to sustain our legacy of service and success.
“I call on all members of our great party to bury differences, embrace reconciliation, and support our elected representatives in delivering on the mandate of the people. We are stronger together, and the task of building a Greater Lagos demands our collective effort, wisdom, and collaboration,” he said.
Sanwo-Olu lauded LASIEC “for conducting a peaceful and credible election” and thanked security agencies for maintaining order during the polls.
He also expressed appreciation to residents of Lagos for participating peacefully in the democratic process, saying their actions reinforced the ideals of democracy.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to working closely with the newly elected local government officials to deepen development and ensure no community is left behind in the drive for a Greater Lagos.
“As the new local government administrations prepare to assume office, I reaffirm my unwavering commitment to working closely with them to drive meaningful development to all corners of our state. Together, we will ensure that no community is left behind on our journey toward a Greater Lagos,” he added.
The APC’s dominance in the election was nearly absolute, with only one councillorship seat—Ward D in Yaba LCDA—won by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
