Labour Party Disowns Abure’s LG Election Committee For Abia

The Abia State chapter of the Labour Party LP led by Hon. Emmanuel Nweze Otti has disowned a list of committee members allegedly constituted by the Julius Abure-led National Working Committee to oversee the exercise.

Recall the Abure-led NWC ceased to exist after the expiration of their tenure following the decision of the party stakeholders led by Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, which moved to restructure the party.

The Otti stakeholders in the meeting in Abia in September, which was attended by the 2023 presidential candidate of the party, Peter Obi, officially reconstituted the party leadership and appointed former Finance Minister, Nenadi Usman as the caretaker chairman tasked with the responsibility to conduct Congress and convention to elect new executives for the party.

The Independent National Electoral Commission approved the decision stating it no longer recognised the Abure-led executives.

However, speaking to newsmen in Umuahia on Wednesday, the State Secretary of the Party, Rev Andrew Ohiagba, urged members to ignore the purported announcement, saying that the State working committee wasn’t consulted.

He further warned the public against dealing with anyone outside the rightly constituted State leadership of the Labour Party, led by Hon. Sir Emmanuel Nweze Otti.

Also, speaking, the State Publicity Secretary of the party Comrade Njoku StJerry Ajike, confirmed the commencement of the sale of forms but urged aspirants to visit the party secretariat and disregard any other announcement to that effect that did not emanate from either office of the State Publicity Secretary or the Acting State Chairman of the Party.
