Kaduna PDP Denies Defection Rumours, Backs National Convention

…Vows To Sack APC From Govt

The Kaduna State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has debunked reports of mass defections from its fold, insisting that the party remains united, focused, and committed to reclaiming power from the All Progressives Congress at both the state and national levels.

The party’s position followed an expanded caucus meeting held on Sunday at the ASAA Pyramid Hotel in Kaduna, where leaders, elders, and stakeholders of the PDP met behind closed doors to deliberate on the political future of the party amid heightened speculation about internal cracks and realignments.

In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting and signed by the state party chairman, Edward Percy Masha on Monday, the PDP dismissed the defection rumours as “mischievous, baseless, and the handiwork of desperate elements bent on destabilising the party ahead of crucial bye-elections.”

“The caucus unanimously resolved to distance the Kaduna State PDP and its leadership from any rumoured plans or intentions to defect. We restate our unwavering loyalty to the PDP, its founding principles, and its current national leadership,” the communiqué read.

The meeting, which drew stakeholders from the three senatorial zones, also expressed strong support for the national leadership of the PDP, including the Board of Trustees (BoT) and the PDP Governors’ Forum.

The caucus commended their efforts to reposition the party through a national elective convention, expected to take place soon.

“The Kaduna State PDP aligns fully with all ongoing efforts to strengthen the party through strategic leadership renewal and internal reconciliation. We support the planned national convention and trust it will yield a united front for the battles ahead,” Masha said.

The PDP in Kaduna is also backing possible alliances or strategic partnerships that may emerge from the national convention, describing such moves as “necessary steps towards ending the APC’s calamitous hold on power.”

“As a party in Kaduna State, we are united, we are focused, and we have resolved to work harmoniously for the success of PDP candidates in the three constituencies where bye-elections are imminent, as well as in all future contests,” the communique added.

Though details of the bye-elections were not specified, party insiders told The WHISTLER that preparations are already underway to mobilise grassroots support in the affected areas.

According to one party source, who requested anonymity because he was not permitted to speak publicly, the PDP is determined to use the polls to test its readiness and consolidate ahead of 2027.

“This meeting was timely and strategic. It has helped to boost the morale of party leaders and members, especially at the local level, who are concerned about recent media narratives suggesting disunity,” the source said.

The caucus meeting was attended by serving and former members of the National and State Assemblies, local government party chairmen, youth and women leaders, and other prominent stakeholders.
