Edo Guber: Atiku, PDP Chairman, Governors Storm Benin City For Ighodalo
Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar and the embattled acting National Chairman of the party, Iliya Damagum joined the governors on the platform of the party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday in Edo State for the grand rally of the party’s governorship candidate, Asue Ighodalo.
The elections will be held on Saturday, September 21.
They were joined by other national leaders of the party and paid a birthday visit to Esama of Benin Kingdom.
The PDP in a statement said it’s “a show of respect and admiration” for the PDP family to pay “a birthday visit to the Esama of Benin Kingdom, Sir Chief Dr. Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion, at his residence in Benin City.”
The party said the “delegation joined family, friends, and well-wishers to celebrate Esama’s 90th birthday, marking a lifetime of remarkable achievements and contributions to Nigerian society.
“We honour a statesman, a bridge-builder, and a symbol of unity. Sir Chief Dr. Igbinedion’s selfless service to Nigeria deserves to be celebrated.”
It noted “the visit underscores the PDP’s commitment to honouring esteemed leaders and fostering unity among Nigerians.”
The Chairman of PDP Governors Forum, Bala Mohammed, led 11 other governors to the grand rally.
The party said, “in a show of unity and strength” for Mohammed to lead his counterparts to “our Party’s Grand Finale Rally ahead of the Saturday September 21, 2024 Gubernatorial Election.”
The governors joined the embattled acting National Chairman, Damagum and the Edo State PDP governorship candidate to rally support for the party’s candidate ahead of the election.
The party said “this historic gathering of PDP Governors underscores the party’s commitment to unity and its determination to win the upcoming Election.”
