A fire outbreak at an Almajiri school in Kauran Namoda, Zamfara State, claimed the lives of at least 17 students on Tuesday night, according to security expert Zagazola Makama.
The inferno, which lasted for about three hours before it was brought under control, also left several other students with injuries.
Makama, in an X post on Wednesday via his page, stated that the injured ones are currently receiving medical attention.
According to him, an eyewitness described the fire as overwhelming.
He also noted that emergency responders rushed to the scene, but by the time they arrived, the damage had already been severe.
Makama added that authorities have yet to determine the exact cause of the fire, but investigations are underway.
