Woman stabs lover to death as missing POS operator found dead in Ondo

A woman has allegedly stabbed her lover to death in Okitipupa following a heated argument over suspected infidelity, and a Point-of-Sale, POS, operator’s decomposing body was discovered in a padlocked room in Akungba, with ritual items found alongside.

The state’s Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, confirmed both cases in a statement on Sunday.

In the Okitipupa incident, 24-year-old Augustina Mowarin allegedly stabbed her partner, Michael Ikuedowoni, after a heated argument over accusations of infidelity.

Lawal explained that the couple, who had lived together for years, had a history of frequent quarrels over issues of trust.

“During the altercation, she allegedly grabbed a pair of scissors and stabbed him in the leg. He was rushed to a private hospital but unfortunately died from the injury,” he said.

Police officers moved in quickly to prevent a mob attack on the suspect. She was taken first to Irele Police Division for her safety before being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, in Akure.

According to the commissioner, the case was reported about two weeks after the incident occurred, which initially slowed police response.

In a separate development, detectives discovered the decomposing body of Busayo Joy, a graduate of Adekunle Ajasin University and a point-of-sale, POS, operator, in a locked room in Medoline, Akungba.

Joy had earlier been declared missing after she failed to account for N750,000 in daily business proceeds.

“The smell from the locked room forced officers to break in, where they found her remains. Items suspected to be for ritual purposes, including black soap and cowries, were also recovered from the scene,” Lawal said.

Police believe her boyfriend, who is now on the run, may have critical information about her death. The body has been taken for autopsy while the search for the suspect continues.

“These incidents are deeply troubling. We are leaving no stone unturned to ensure justice in both cases,” the commissioner assured.
