We Will Facilitate Trade With Rail Transport, Says NRC

The Managing Director of the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC), Mr. Kayode Opeifa, has reaffirmed the corporation’s commitment to achieving 100 per cent smooth movement of goods across the country.

Speaking during an inspection tour of properties managed by Railway Property Management Company Limited (RPMCL) in Kaduna, he stated that efforts are underway to enhance railway freight services

He emphasized that the NRC is working towards boosting business operations through efficient railway transportation, which would positively impact the national economy.

Opeifa added, “Nigeria Railway Corporation, under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu, is determined to achieve 100 per cent smooth movement of goods along both the narrow and standard gauge rail lines.

“We are committed to ensuring that the movement of goods from Lagos to Kaduna Dry Port is achieved by the beginning of the second quarter.

“Likewise, we are working towards facilitating cargo transportation from Niger, including locations such as Mokwa and Jebba, where their Inland Dry Port is situated.”

He further stated that the NRC is determined to support businesses in Kaduna and Kano, particularly those involved in exports, by providing seamless railway freight services.

During a stop at the Kaduna Inland Dry Port, Opeifa commended the management for sustaining service delivery and emphasized the benefits of collaboration between NRC and key stakeholders.

“We are committed to partnering with Kaduna Dry Port, state governments, and private entities along this corridor to ensure maximum utilization of railway services.

“This partnership will help protect our tracks from vandalism, reduce the cost of goods, improve the standard of living, curb inflation, and enhance business operations,” Opeifa stated.

He assured that every asset of the NRC would be optimized for the benefit of Nigerians, stressing that the corporation is fully prepared to facilitate trade through railway transport.

In response, the Managing Director of Inland Containers Nigeria Limited, operators of Kaduna Inland Dry Port, Mr. Omotayo Dada, expressed satisfaction with the NRC’s commitment and described the visit as encouraging.

Dada said, “The Dry Port is far from idle, and with what we have discussed today, I am optimistic that before the year ends, productivity will increase by about 70 per cent.

“We look forward to a new and fantastic phase of operations.”
