CAN laments sale of church properties in Kaduna

The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Kaduna State chapter, has expressed concern with video clips/news of the sale of church properties by some churches in the state.

The state chairman, Rev Caleb Ma’aji Bawa, in a statement explained that CAN leadership has no power to stop any church from selling its property but can only advise the church to always be cautious in disposing of its property.

“We don’t encourage the practice of property being sold by any church because the church, being the light of the world, must resist any temptation of selling its property but should keep it for future use,” he explained.

He stated that there is no forceful takeover by CAN of any church property, saying that being the leader of the church does not give it the right to stop a church from selling its property.

Bawa explained that a church is at liberty to sell its property, stressing that the transactions were normally done without consulting them as leadership of the church, as CAN has no control over any church.

Bawa explained that Christians are discouraged from the arbitrary sale of church properties, saying that as peace returns to Kaduna, such places that were deserted will be repopulated.

CAN Kaduna State commiserated with the Muslim Ummah on the demise of the state Secretary of Jama’atul Nasril Islam, Alhaji Ibrahim Isa Kufena, saying that they had an enriching relationship with him and that he helped in achieving the desired peace and development in the state and among the adherents of the two faiths.

“May God bring on board a competent replacement that will fill the vacuum created and continue where Alhaji Kufena stopped,” the statement explained.

CAN called on all residents to come out and actively participate in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration so that no one is either left out or disenfranchised.

The statement added that the voting card is their power to either vote in or vote out any representative in all political positions, pointing out that it shows their political strength so that no one is surcharged.
