We Must Leverage Technology To Combat Crime CDS Tells JTF Commanders

Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Christopher Musa, has urged the military to embrace technology, improve intelligence sharing, and expand interagency cooperation to stay ahead of all security challenges.

Musa spoke in Abuja on Wednesday at the commencement of the 2025 CDS Joint Task Force Commanders Conference, which had the topic “Enhancing Jointness across all Theatres of Operations”.

While speaking, he praised the armed forces officers and troops in the various joint task force theatres for their unflinching dedication and sacrifices in combating insurgency, terrorism, banditry, and other security challenges

Stating that recent operational victories were a credit to the troops’ professionalism, resilience, and dedication to duty, as indicated by unity of purpose and effective collaborations.

“However, while we celebrate these achievements, we must remain vigilant. The security landscape continues to evolve, presenting new and complex challenges.

“Evolving threats, such as the employment of armed drones, transnational crimes, and the proliferation of improvised explosive devices, demand innovative and adaptive responses.

“This conference is therefore an opportunity to critically examine these challenges and develop actionable strategies to address them.

“We must leverage technology, enhance intelligence-sharing, and strengthen interagency cooperation to stay ahead of these threats,” he said.

The defence chief stated that the conference would be an important venue for attendees to reflect on their combined efforts, review progress, and strategize for future difficulties noting that it was an opportunity to improve collaboration, share insights, and reaffirm national defence commitments.

Musa stated that the conference’s subject concentrated on the concept of jointness as a key predictor of operational success, particularly in the context of today’s complex and changing security environment.

He stated that one of the pillars of his leadership idea was to develop a professional Nigerian armed forces that was people-centric and capable of achieving its constitutional responsibilities in a cooperative and collaborative setting.

The CDS stated that commanders play an important role in creating the spirit of collaboration and encouraged them to continue developing bridges, sharing resources, and working as a unified team.

He thanked President Bola Tinubu for his exceptional leadership, outstanding commitment, and support of the country’s military forces and security agencies.

“As we proceed with the conference, let us remember that the security of Nigeria is a collective responsibility.

“By working together, we can ensure a safer and more prosperous future for all Nigerians,” he added.
