There are fears that many other patients will lose their lives following the disconnection power supply to the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, AKTH by the Kano Electricity Distribution Company, KEDCO.
Already the management of the Hospital, has appealed to the Kano Electricity Distribution Company, KEDCO, to quickly reconnect the hospital to electricity supply to avert further loss of lives of patients on critical life support equipments.

The Management said it is saddened by the death of some patients in critical care, after KEDCO abruptly disconnected the entire hospital from electricity supply over pending electricity bills.

The hospital said in a statement by its Head of Information Unit, Hauwa Inuwa Dutse that the hospital regularly pays electricity bills to KEDCO from Internally Generated Revenue and also uses part of such revenue to procure diesel for on-site power generation to augment the electricity supplied by KEDCO.

The Management of AKTH, in a statement signed by Hauwa Dutse, however, appealeds to KEDCO to support its healthcare delivery services to patients by restoring electricity to the hospital as it takes steps to defray outstanding bills.

However, efforts to speak to the Management of the electricity company did not yield any positive results as the its spokesperson, Bala Sani did not pick his calls.
