UTME: Imo Police Dismiss Claim Of 15 Missing Candidates
The Imo State Police Command has debunked reports of 15 missing students who reportedly traveled from Onitsha, Anambra State, to Okigwe, Imo State, for the rescheduled 2025 UTME.
A social influencer on X (formerly Twitter), Uche Okoye (@Anambra1stSon), who disclosed the information through a post at 7:31 pm on Saturday, said that the candidates had yet to be reached by family members.
Attached to Okoye’s post were screenshots of chats from an undisclosed person who reported the situation.
The complaint read: “Good evening sir, my classmates that their JAMB got rescheduled and they had papers yesterday by 6:30 am at Okigwe, Imo State, has (sic) been missing, 15 of them, and none of their numbers is (sic) reachable, including our school director.
“They left from Onitsha. The families have been wailing since then, Jamb has really dealt with us, some of us were rescheduled to Onitsha centres here while they were rescheduled to Okigwe.”
But in a terse rebuttal shared with THE WHISTLER on Sunday, the spokesperson of the command, Henry Okoye, said the students only encountered delays while on transit.
Okoye told THE WHISTLER, “It is a false story. The students had mechanical glitch at Okigwe and were secured and now with their families.”
Recall that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) had rescheduled the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) for over 300,000 candidates.
The development followed errors in the conduct of the UTME, which affected the results of 379,997 candidates from 157 Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres in parts of Lagos, Anambra, Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, and Enugu States.
