UK Police Detain Man For Ramming Car Into Liverpool FC Fans Celebrating Victory
The UK police have detained a man after a vehicle hit several pedestrians during Liverpool Football Club’s Premier League victory parade.
According to Merseyside Police, the incident occurred shortly after 6 p.m. in Liverpool city centre.
The police said they responded to reports that a car had collided with multiple people amid large crowds celebrating the club’s 20th top-flight title.
“The car stopped at the scene and a male has been detained,” the police confirmed in a statement.
The arrested individual has been identified as a 53-year-old white British man from the Liverpool area.
Footage shared on social media captured the disturbing moment the vehicle drove into fans gathered along the parade route.
One eyewitness, Harry Rashid, who was at the event with his wife and two daughters, described the chaos.
“This gray people carrier just pulled up from the right and rammed into all the people at the side of us. It was extremely fast,” Rashid told PA Media.
“Initially, we just heard the pop, pop, pop of people being knocked off the bonnet. It was horrendous—people were unconscious, lying on the ground. Absolutely horrific,” he added.
Video obtained by Reuters showed emergency services rushing to assist the injured, with several individuals being carried into ambulances on stretchers.
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer described the incident as “appalling,” and extended his thoughts to those affected.
He also thanked the emergency services for their quick response.
The North West Ambulance Service confirmed it was actively supporting the emergency response, stating, “Our priority is to ensure people receive the medical help they need as quickly as possible.”
Authorities have not yet confirmed the number of injuries or a possible motive, as the investigation remains ongoing.
