UK Deports 43 Nigerians, Ghanaians

The UK government has deported 43 immigration offenders from Nigeria and Ghana as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen border security and enforce immigration laws.

According to a statement released by the UK Home Office on Friday, the individuals deported included 15 failed asylum seekers and 11 foreign national offenders who had served prison sentences.

According to the statement, an additional seven people returned voluntarily.

The deportation was carried out via a chartered flight, highlighting what the UK government described as “progress in restoring order” through its new Plan for Change immigration reforms.

“This flight demonstrates how international partnerships deliver on working people’s priorities for swift returns and secure borders,” said Angela Eagle, the UK Minister for Border Security and Asylum.

“Through the Plan for Change, we’re accelerating returns, closing expensive asylum hotels, and restoring order to a broken system,” she added.

The Home Office noted that since the last election, two charter flights have now transported a total of 87 individuals back to Nigeria and Ghana. Overall, more than 24,000 people have been returned under the current government—a rise of 11% compared to the same period last year.

Deportations of foreign national offenders have also increased by 16%, with 3,594 criminals removed from the UK.

Officials emphasized that the deportations are conducted “in a dignified and respectful manner” under Immigration Enforcement protocols.

The UK government stated that strong cooperation with the governments of Nigeria and Ghana helped in facilitating the deportations.

Baroness Chapman of Darlington, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office Minister responsible for irregular migration, hailed the joint efforts, stating that, “Working internationally is critical to tackling irregular migration. Our collaboration with Ghana and Nigeria shows our shared commitment to secure borders and disrupt organized immigration crime.”

This latest operation follows the recent Organised Immigration Crime Summit in the UK, where over 40 countries, including Nigeria and Ghana met to step up the global fight against human smuggling networks.
