Two-time Olympian, Ojeli Breaks Personal Record In Lagos Continental Relays
Two-time Olympian Emmanuel Ojeli produced a stunning performance at the MTN CHAMPS Continental Relays, breaking his three-year-old PB in the men’s 100m semifinals with a blazing time of 10.24s.
Young athletes battled for points and medals on behalf of their schools and teams in an event taking place across two venues – Yabatech and the University of Lagos Sports Complex.
The 100m and 400m events produced a series of personal bests, with Ojeli and Favour Ashe leading the way.
Ojeli dominated his heat to finish ahead of Emmanuel Babalola (10.55s) and Ganiu Hassan (10.63s).
Favour Ashe recorded a wind-assisted 10.14s to win his heat ahead of ThankGod Igube (10.23s), while Chidera Ezeakor dominated his semifinal with a strong 10.43s, ahead of Oriyomi Akala (10.56s).
In the women’s 100m category, Iyanu Bada delivered a personal best of 11.48s in the opening race before earning an 11.38s in the semi-final.
Janet Adesiyan and Favour Odiyeye clocked 11.88s and 11.97s, respectively, in the same heat.
In the junior men’s category, John Caleb recorded a personal best of 10.38s in the semi-finals to become the fastest qualifier in his division.
Qudus Akintoye (10.59s) and Abdulrahman Jimoh (10.61s) made up the top three semifinal times.
Lucy Nwankwo recorded a personal best of 12.07s, the fastest across all semifinal heats in the junior women’s category.
In the men’s 400m category, Samson Nathaniel finished top of the field with a season’s best of 46.20s. Benjamin Magaji won his heat in 48.28s to rank second overall.
