Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY) have killed dozens of terrorists in a coordinated air and ground offensive in the Makakkari general area of Gando Forest, Bukkuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The operation conducted on Sunday followed credible intelligence reports that a large number of terrorists loyal to the late Halilu Buzu and Alhaji Beti had converged in the forest, allegedly preparing to launch a reprisal attack on Adabka and Nasarawan Burkullu farming communities in Bukkuyum LGA.
According to the intelligence, the planned assault was in retaliation for recent defeats suffered by the terrorists in clashes with security forces and hybrid units.
According to the public relations officer of OPFY, Captain David Adewusi, the operation, air assets struck the terrorists’ hideout, killing scores, while ground troops under Sector 2 intercepted and eliminated fleeing fighters attempting to escape the bombardment.
He assured residents that there would be no safe haven for terrorists or other armed non-state actors in the North West and parts of the North Central region.
“Our troops will continue to hunt down the adversaries wherever they gather or move”
He urged residents to support security operations by promptly reporting suspicious activities, stressing that timely information is key to protecting communities and ending the menace of terrorism and banditry.
