Three suspected cow rustlers have been apprehended by the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army troops under Operation Golden Peace in Taraba State.

The rustled livestock, numbering 174, included 57 sheep and were to be transported to Cameroon before being intercepted by the troops.

The Brigade’s Acting Spokesperson, Captain Oni Olubodunde, said in a statement issued on Wednesday that the operation was conducted on intelligence.

The statement read; “Acting on intelligence, the soldiers apprehended the suspects—Sabiu Lawal, Haruna Ayuba, and Yusuf Mukawo, all from Kampanin Zurak, Plateau State—on January 27, 2025, at Namnai village in Gassol Local Government Area.

“The suspects were found in possession of 174 cows and 57 sheep, allegedly stolen from border villages between Plateau and Taraba States.

“The brigade also announced that preliminary investigations revealed that the rustled animals were being transported to Cameroon, through Karamati in Gashaka Local Government Area.

“Efforts are ongoing to verify ownership and return the livestock to their rightful owners,” said Olubodunde.

The brigade reaffirmed its dedication to combating crime and urged citizens to keep supplying security forces with reliable information to support their activities.
