A trigger-happy vigilante has killed a civilian woman, identified as Chiamaka Okeke, at the Ibeto junction area of Nnewi in Anambra State.

The Anambra Police Command confirmed the incident to THE WHISTLER on Wednesday.

Okeke was shot on Tuesday evening, causing tension in the area.

The spokesperson of the command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed to our correspondent that the vigilante is part of the security operatives enforcing the recently launched Operation Udo Ga Chi.

Recall that the police recently launched Operation Udo Ga Chi to combat kidnapping and other violent crimes in the state.

The incident occurred barely 24 hours after the police set up a monitoring team to ensure operatives assigned to enforce the operation were civil and complied with the rules of engagement.

The command revealed that the Tuesday incident is being investigated to ensure that justice is served.

The police pledged to communicate further developments to the public regarding the incident.
