Nigerian international Ademola Lookman is expected to face sanctions from his team, Atalanta, after the striker allegedly went missing without leave (AWOL) following a heated transfer dispute with Inter Milan.
Lookman’s failure to show up for preseason training as planned, according to reports from Italy, has fueled rumours about his future at the Gewiss Stadium.
The 26-year-old, who played a key role in Atalanta’s victory in the UEFA Europa League last season, has been strongly linked to a move to Inter, with talks between the two teams reportedly stalling over valuation.
The management of Atalanta is reportedly unhappy with Lookman’s absence, considering it unprofessional behaviour that jeopardises the team’s plans for the upcoming campaign.
According to local media, the club may impose fines and other disciplinary actions while they try to work out a solution with the player.
Lookman, who was instrumental in Atalanta’s success last season, has not yet commented publicly on his absence. According to people close to the player, his decision might have been influenced by dissatisfaction with the slow pace of transfer negotiations, as Inter is eager to sign him but unwilling to meet Atalanta’s asking price.
