Tinubu Seeks N/Assembly’s Nod To Send Troops To Benin Republic

President Bola Tinubu has written to the National Assembly seeking approval to send troops to the Republic of Benin for peace keeping.

The President’s letter, dated 8th December, 2025, was read on at plenary on Tuesday by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio.

The President’s request may not be unconnected to the recent coup attempt in the Benin Republic, which was quashed by the country’s authority hours after.

Recall that President Tinubu had sent Nigerian military fighter jets to that country on Sunday, following the announcement by the coup plotters that they have overthrown the government of President Patrice Talon.

The President’s request is expected to be processed by the National Assembly within the week.
