During a bilateral meeting with Chinese Premier Li Qiang in Beijing on Wednesday, President Bola Tinubu declared that Nigeria and Africa at large are “ready to move the ball” in advancing China-Africa relations.

The statement comes as Tinubu participated in the ninth Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), where he underlined Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening ties with China and promoting African development.

President Tinubu, who also serves as the Chairman of ECOWAS, marketed Africa’s vast potential for investment and growth to investors at the forum.

“Africa is a huge opportunity for economic development,” Tinubu stated, adding “As great people, we are willing to partner for progress and development.”

The president called for a strategic focus on collaborative areas to ensure the relationship remains advantageous for both parties.

“What is most important will be the focus of FOCAC in areas on which we can collaborate to make the relationship mutually beneficial to all of us,” Tinubu stated.

Ajuri Ngelale, Tinubu’s spokesman, further quoted the president as saying “The African spirit for FOCAC is based upon mutual respect and partnership that promotes development, happiness, peace, and stability for our people.

“We are on this journey together. We believe that we share common interests, which are investments and development.

“For me, as a Nigerian and as Chairman of ECOWAS, I am happy that the strategic partnership being promoted is acceptable to both sides and this is the way to go.”

Li Qiang also expressed China’s readiness to work with Nigeria in implementing mutual understandings reached between President Xi Jinping and President Tinubu.
