Tinubu Is Nigeria’s Worst President, Says Rhodes-Vivour

The 2023 Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in Lagos State, Mr. Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has described President Bola Tinubu as “the worst performing president,” citing the nation’s deteriorating economic conditions under his administration.
Rhodes-Vivour also questioned the rationale behind naming public infrastructure and national monuments after Tinubu, arguing that it reflects a culture of self-glorification rather than public service.
His comments followed a letter by former LP presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, who rejected two plots of land allocated to him by the Anambra State Housing Development Corporation during his tenure as governor.
Obi, in the letter, stated that accepting such allocations would be unethical, as he became governor to serve—not to enrich himself.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Rhodes-Vivour drew a contrast between Obi’s modest example and what he described as Tinubu’s “greed” driven “ambition.”
“Lagos state guest house on Bourdillon, former deputy governors residence on queens drive, the list is endless.
“An ambition motivated by greed, self proliferation and aggrandisement of self, will only continue to plunge our nation into poverty.
“How does the worst performing president (strictly by economic indices) have the most things named after him in just his first term amidst this level of unprecedented suffering? That alone should let you know who this president is here to serve….. It isn’t you,” Rhodes-Vivour stated.
Since Tinubu assumed office on May 29, 2023, at least seven major public facilities have been named after him, despite widespread public discontent over economic hardship and soaring inflation.
These include an international airport in Minna (formerly Abubakar Imam International Airport), a major road in Abuja, a building within the National Assembly complex, a technology innovation centre, a polytechnic in Gwarinpa, a military barracks in Asokoro, and a newly renovated international conference centre.
