Tinubu approves skills centre, 1,000MW power project for Plateau

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of a Skills Acquisition Centre in Jos, Plateau State, as part of efforts to equip youths with employable skills and reduce their vulnerability to crime.
The approval was conveyed to Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang on Saturday during a courtesy visit by the Chairman of the Presidential Regulatory Committee on Technology Transfer, Dr. Mohammed Dahiru, and security expert, Rear Admiral Suleiman D. El-ladan (rtd), at the Government House, Rayfield, Jos.
Dr. Dahiru, who led the delegation, disclosed that the centre would be established under the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI).
He explained that the initiative aims to boost youth employment and drive socio-economic development in the state.
In addition, President Tinubu has also approved a 1,000-megawatt power project to be executed across Northern Nigeria through a proposed New Nigerian Energy Company in partnership with the United States. Plateau State is among the pilot locations selected for the project.
The power initiative is expected to significantly improve electricity supply, stimulate economic activities, and promote regional stability.
Rear Admiral El-ladan (rtd) used the opportunity to extend condolences to the Plateau State Government over recent security challenges in the state.
He reaffirmed the committee’s readiness to collaborate on sustainable solutions.
The retired naval officer further highlighted plans to deploy advanced security infrastructure under a “Community-Led Integrated Focus Protection Framework,” with support from international partners.
According to him, the framework will enhance the capacity to prevent, detect, and respond swiftly to security threats, ensuring lasting peace in the state.
Governor Mutfwang, who received the delegation, welcomed the presidential approvals, describing them as timely interventions that would address youth unemployment, power deficits, and security concerns in Plateau State.
