Those Leaving PDP Scared Of EFCC Probes, Emergency Rules – Nnaji

A former National Auditor of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Ray Nnaji, says former governors elected under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party who are decamping to the All Progressives Congress are seeking federal government shields from investigations by anti-graft agencies.

He further alleged that those still serving and leaving PDP are afraid of a declaration of a state of emergency as happened in River State where “President Bola Tinubu removed an elected governor and nothing happened”.

Nnaji, a former council Chairman of Nkanu West LGA of Enugu State, spoke during a radio programme hosted by Enugu’s Dream FM on Thursday. He was reacting to the decamping of the governor of Delta State and his predecessor to APC. Declaring that such an act was irresponsible, Nnaji however said the decampees would regret their action.

He said, “These defections are in line with politics of these days without ideologies and principles. Some believe that the party belongs to them. Most of those defecting benefitted immensely from PDP. Even if the party is having problems, and the source is known, why not make efforts to resolve it instead of allowing it to linger. What is happening is a big blow to PDP.”

He however said APC should not celebrate, and predicted possible implosions because of clashes of interest.

He said, “Those joining them might still have clashes of interest with those already there. Recall that PDP boasted of ruling Nigeria for sixty years. The issue is about managing successes well.”

He also advised PDP governors not to act as if they were above the party. Reacting to the position of PDP governors against possible mergers ahead of the 2027 general elections, Nnaji said, “PDP has not spoken. Our governors are not helping matters, and President Bola Tinubu is a master strategist. Moves are to destroy the opposition. PDP has every opportunity to defeat APC going by the sufferings the masses are passing through under the APC government. Those decamping will regret later.”

On factors that might be influencing the gale of decamping, he opined that, “What happened in Rivers where an elected governor was removed without due process is causing jittery to many governors. Some bigwigs also don’t want to be harassed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. I advise PDP to solve its internal crisis. Nobody is bigger than PDP. Let the PDP national leadership do the right thing.”
