Ten Killed After Gunmen Launched Coordinated Attacks On Plateau Communities
The Plateau Government has confirmed the heinous attacks on some of its communities in the Bokkos Local Government Area (LGA) of the state, claiming the lives of no fewer than 10 people.
The Special Adviser to Governor Caleb Mutfwang and the coordinator, Operation Rainbow, a state-owned security outfit, Brig.-Gen. Gakji Shipi confirmed that the incident occurred at about 7 pm on Tuesday.
Shipi revealed that the armed men launched a coordinated attack in Kwatas and Daffo, both communities in Bokkos, barely a week after an attack on the LGA killed no fewer than 16 people.
He said, “Yesterday, we had two separate attacks–one in Kwatas and the other in Daffo, all in Bokkos. The latest attack in Daffo started around 7 pm, targeting peaceful residents in a commercial area near a military base.
“The terrorists launched a brazen attack, leaving at least seven people dead. At the same time, similar attacks in Kwatas and Ambul-Barkish left at least four people.”
Also, a group in the LGA christened “Bokkos Cultural Development Council (BCDC) Vanguard,” led by its chairman, Barr. Farmasum Fuddang confirmed the incident.
Fuddang said, “We feel betrayed by those responsible for our protection. Close to ten of our members are currently lying dead, victims of the latest assaults in Daffo and Kwatas communities.
“These attacks, executed simultaneously on September 3, followed a week of isolated attacks resulting in 16 deaths.
“Our people have never launched attacks on the Fulani immigrants that have flooded into our homeland, yet we have been subjected to consistent armed attacks since 2013, resulting in over 500 deaths and the forced annexation of our communities.
“We demand answers and swift action from those responsible. We call on the international community to rise up and demand justice for our people. We demand absolute compensation for those who have suffered violence and the dislodging of terrorist camps in the area.”
The group commended the Sector Commander of the Special Task Force Operations Safe Haven in Bokkos for responding to the attack and called for an investigation into the lack of action and complacency of the soldiers that were manning the nearby base in Daffo.
