Tackling security challenges in Niger calls for collective resources, re-strategising – Etsu Nupe

The Etsu Nupe and chairman of the Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, has stressed the need for a collective approach in addressing the escalating security challenges facing the state.

Alhaji Abubakar made this statement during a courtesy visit by the Commissioner of Police, CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, and his entourage to his palace in the Bida area of the state.

The Etsu Nupe emphasised that with the growing threats of banditry, kidnapping, and other security concerns, there is an urgent need for stakeholders to unite, pool resources, and re-strategise on how best to confront these issues.

The royal father noted that security is a shared responsibility that demands the active involvement of traditional institutions and the citizenry alike.

“Due to the increasing security issues faced, there is a need to look inward and come together, contribute resources and re-strategise on how to tackle security challenges faced in the State,” the traditional ruler emphasised.

Abubakar further assured the Commissioner of Police of the emirate’s full support and cooperation, particularly in areas such as intelligence gathering, information sharing, and vigilant observation, to help prevent unforeseen incidents.

He also pledged to continue praying for the state and the commissioner, asking for strength, wisdom, and the capacity to handle the herculean task of policing the state.

Earlier in his remarks, CP Elleman explained that he had intended to pay the visit sooner, but conflicting engagements and emerging security developments had delayed his schedule.

He appealed to the Emir for prayers, both for himself and the state, in light of the ongoing security challenges, while assuring the emirate and the broader state of his unwavering commitment to service.

Elleman pledged total dedication to his constitutional responsibilities and vowed to work diligently to ensure that residents of Niger State can sleep peacefully at night.
