Super Eagles players celebrate Unity Cup victory

The Super Eagles of Nigeria earned a 5-4 penalty shootout victory over Jamaica to emerge champions of the 2025 Unity Cup at the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday.

The regulation time ended 2-2 after Moses Simon and Samuel Chukwueze scored for the Super Eagles.

Moses Simon opened the scoring in the ninth minute by finishing off an assist from Cyril Dessers before Kaheim Dixon restored parity for Jamaica.

Samuel Chukwueze restored Nigeria’s lead in the 53rd minute, and Jon Russel grabbed the equaliser for Jamaica 10 minutes later.

Both sides failed to find the back of the net to take the game straight into penalties.

Kelechi Iheanacho, Moses Simon, Tolu Arokodare, Bruno Onyemaechi, and Christantus Uche all scored for the Super Eagles, while Dwayne Atkinson missed for Jamaica to hand Nigeria a 5-4 win.

The Super Eagles have now won the tournament for the second time after winning the first edition in 2004.

It is the first trophy under Eric Chelle, who took over in March. They will now switch focus to the friendly match against Russia on June 6.
