The Nigerian Biological Safety Association (NiBSA) has appointed new executives to manage the affairs of the association.
The appointment was made during the NISBA 7th Annual Conference/Annual General Meeting held at the University of Abuja.
Dr Stella Udo, a retired Director Planning, research and statistics at the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria emerged the President, while Dr Easter Nwokah as Vice President and Dr Sati Ngulukun as the Secretary.
Others are Dr Kingsley Ochei Assistant Secretary, Mr Anthony Abraham Financial Secretary, (Mrs) Rhoda Nwalozie as Treasurer and Mr Mukhtar Mainasara Yeldu as the Protocol Officer/PRO.
The newly elected president said her priorities are to Educate,Innovate and transform professionals in Biosafety and Biosecurity and Institutionalise the Culture of Biosafety and Biosecurity in Nigeria,West Africa and African Continent at large.
She envisioned Strategic Collaborations with partners to support the implementation of the association’s five years Strategic plan.
“My legacy project will be the development of a BSBS Training and Research Center in Abuja”
Also speaking, the Public Relations Officer of the association Mr Mukhtar Mainasara yeldu said, the NISBA under his administration will experience an improved Media visibility, and standardise annual conference.
The keynote speaker at the conference professor Salamatu Machunga Mambula presented a paper on strategic harmonisation of natural and regional biosecurity policies and action for one health sustainability.
In her speech she highlighted information security, physical security, personal security and maternal control and accountability as the pillars of biosecurity mitigation.
The professor said the implementation of a safety biorisk management system is critical to reduce both safety and security risk associated with biological agents.
