Sonic Labs to Airdrop 200M Tokens in Gamified Campaign

Sonic Labs has announced a 200 million S token airdrop to reward users, developers, and DeFi protocols in its rapidly growing ecosystem. This airdrop is making headlines as one of the few legally compliant token distributions open to U.S. participants.
Disclosed via a June 3 blog post and confirmed on X, the airdrop introduces a gamified reward structure that allocates: Sonic Points for platform users, Sonic Gems for DeFi protocols, and Game Gems for developers.
According to Crypto News, users can start claiming tokens in December 2025. Initial claims unlock 25% of the allocation, with the remainder vested linearly over 270 days.
An early-claim decay mechanism will burn unclaimed rewards, incentivising longer-term engagement. Participants will also have the option to stake S at a 4.61% APY.
To ensure equitable distribution, Sonic Labs has teamed up with analytics firms OpenBlock and Sentio. OpenBlock, known for its work with EigenLayer, will handle reward modelling and strategy, while Sentio will use its real-time indexing engine to track on-chain behaviour and assign Sonic Points in real time.
This airdrop follows Sonic Labs’ recent $10 million token sale to Galaxy in May. The capital injection is expected to strengthen Sonic’s regulatory standing and expand its reach across U.S. markets. Galaxy’s institutional backing is also expected to support Sonic’s broader goal of linking DeFi tools with traditional finance systems.
Despite strong performance metrics—over $17 billion in cumulative DEX volume and $4 billion monthly on average—Sonic’s native S token has dropped 22% in the past month. Total value locked (TVL) has also declined to $861 million, down from a May peak of $1.14 billion, per DeFiLlama.
The dip comes despite the launch of Flying Tulip, a DeFi super-app created by founder Andre Cronje. The app integrates trading, lending, and liquidity provision into one platform.
With the airdrop set to attract global and U.S.-based users alike, market observers will be watching closely to see whether this campaign helps reverse the token’s downward trend and reignites growth in Sonic’s DeFi footprint.
