SOKOTO: 60-Year-Old Man Dies, 34 Rescued In Boat Accident

A boat accident claimed the life of a 60-year-old man in Tangwale community, Dundaye district, Sokoto State, on Saturday afternoon.
The boat was carrying 35 passengers when it capsized.
According to Alhaji Nasiru Garba Kalambaina, the Special Adviser to Governor Ahmed Aliyu on the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), 34 passengers were rescued alive by local divers.
He, however, said that one man from Tangwale village could not be saved, and his body was later recovered.
“But 34 were successfully rescued alive by the local divers. One of the passengers, a 60- year-old man from Tangwale village, lost his life and his body was later recovered and buried in accordance with the Islamic rites,” Kalambaina confirmed to Daily Trust
Kalambaina was accompanied by officials from SEMA and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to visit Tangwale village to extend condolences to the bereaved family on behalf of the Sokoto State government.
