Vice President of Nigeria, Kashim Shettima, has reaffirmed the President Bola Tinubu administration’s commitment to empowering Nigerian youths and promoting inclusive governance.

Speaking at the grand finale of the 60th Anniversary celebration of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) in Port Harcourt, Shettima emphasized that youth inclusion is a cornerstone of the current administration’s vision for Nigeria.

Shettima was represented at the event by his Technical Adviser on Women and Youth Engagement, Hauwa Liman.

“Your inclusion is more than a presentation. It is about creating opportunities that translate into real change,” Shettima said.

He highlighted various initiatives launched by the administration to empower young people, including the Presidential Initiative for Youths Enterprise Clusters, backed by N110 billion to support young entrepreneurs across agriculture, technology, and industry.

The Vice President also mentioned the Youths Investment Fund, which provides critical financial support for start-ups and small businesses, ensuring that young Nigerians can turn their ideas into thriving ventures.

Furthermore, he announced a $618 million initiative designed to support tech and creative enterprises in the digital and creative sector.

Shettima assured the youths that the government is working to establish a National Youth Development Bank and a youth data bank to provide young Nigerians with the resources, information, and access they need to succeed.

He also listed the National Education Fund and the students loan scheme as other efforts by the government to secure the future of Nigerian youths.

Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, represented by the Chief of Staff Government House, Ehie Edison, reiterated his administration’s commitment to youth development. He noted that many youths in Rivers State hold leadership positions, including local council chairmen, vice chairmen, and councillors.

National President of NYCN, Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubu, thanked the Rivers State Government for hosting the 60th-anniversary celebration. He called on the government to implement policies that would address the current hardship faced by Nigerians and appealed to youths to acquire skills and focus on entrepreneurship rather than relying on white-collar jobs.

The event marked a significant milestone in the NYCN’s history, highlighting the organization’s efforts to empower Nigerian youths and promote positive change.
