Senate Okays Chairman, Executive Directors For AMCON

The Senate on Wednesday approved the nomination of Dr. Bala Bello as part-time chairman of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON). Bello takes the slot of the North East geopolitical zone on the board.
The upper legislative chamber similarly approved the nominations of five other non-executive directors from the remaining geopolitical zones.
They are Yusuf Tegina Sule (North Central), Adeyemo Adeoye Stephen (South West), Yahaya Ibrahim (North West), Odion Charles Iyare (South South), and Emily Chidinma Osuji (South East).
Their confirmation followed a favourable report of their screening by the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and Other Financial Institutions.
While recommending the nominees, the committee, chaired by Senator Tokunbo Abiru (Lagos East), described them as ably qualified to hold the positions.
Their confirmation was carried out in an overwhelming voice vote called by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio.
President Bola Tinubu had forwarded the names of the nominees to the Senate a few days ago, urging the lawmakers to expedite action on legislative processes leading to their confirmation.
