Security forces in Imo State have carried out a major raid on a well-known criminal hideout at Chukwuma Nwoha Junction in Owerri, dismantling what has long been described as a hub for criminal activity.
The operation, which was executed on Thursday, was part of the Imo State Government’s intensified crackdown on crime and insecurity.
According to security sources, the hideout had been under surveillance for several weeks following credible intelligence reports.
Authorities confirmed that several suspects were arrested during the coordinated operation, and a cache of dangerous weapons and hard drugs was also recovered at the scene, believed to have been used in various criminal activities, including robbery and drug trafficking.
The area, once feared by residents due to its association with violent gangs and illegal dealings, is now under tight security watch as investigations continue.
The government, however, reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property, assuring citizens that no part of the state will be allowed to serve as a sanctuary for criminals.
Residents of the area have praised the swift action by the security agencies, expressing hope that peace and order will now return to the once-troubled neighbourhood.
