Celtic have confirmed the signing of Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho on a one-year deal, marking a new chapter for the former Leicester City forward. Iheanacho, 27, joins the Scottish champions as a free agent following the termination of his contract by Spanish club Sevilla on Monday.
The forward enjoyed a successful spell in the Premier League, winning both the FA Cup and Community Shield with Leicester before heading to Spain, and he now looks to bring his experience and goal-scoring prowess to Celtic.
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers welcomed the addition of the Nigerian to his team, highlighting Iheanacho’s versatility and proven track record at the top-flight level.
“I know Kelechi so well and what he can bring to the team. He is such a talented player, with great ability, athleticism and work rate,” Rodgers told the club’s official website.
“I am sure he will love being at Celtic, and I believe our fans will love what he brings. He has great experience, and he is right in his peak years, so he can be a great signing for us. I am sure he will make a big contribution to the team.”
Iheanacho, who has also played international football for Nigeria, said he was excited about his recent move from the Spanish La Liga to the Scottish Premiership.
