School Principal Attacked For Stopping Cheating In WASSCE

The Vice Principal of Complete Child Development Centre, Awule, Akure, identified as Mr Rotifa, was a few days ago beaten to a pulp by thugs allegedly hired by the mother of a student of the school over the failure to allow her son, Wisdom Elisha, to cheat in the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
Following the alleged attack, the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Wilfred Afolabi, ordered the immediate arrest of those involved.
According to the police boss, in a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the command, Olayinka Ayanlade, the incident occurred after Mr. Rotifa confiscated the student’s Android phone in the examination hall for attempting to cheat.
The police boss stated that tactical arrangements have been made to ensure the safety of staff and students until the conclusion of the WASSCE.
It noted that the Vice Principal, though discharged from the hospital, remains under recuperation and has not returned home due to alleged continued threats from the student’s mother.
The police said they are collaborating with other security agencies to ensure the safety of the school community and apprehend the culprits. Arrangements are ongoing to secure the school for the remaining WASSCE papers.
“The Commissioner of Police has ordered the immediate deployment of tactical teams to arrest those involved. The operation has been taken over by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operations to ensure proper coordination and prevent further breakdown of law and order.
“The police, in collaboration with other security agencies, are on top of the situation, working to ensure the safety of staff and students of the school for the remaining WASSCE papers. The police are working to apprehend the culprits, and arrangements are ongoing to ensure the safety of the school community,” the statement said.
