Russia Kills Four In Fresh Ukraine Bombardment

Fresh Russian aerial strikes lasting more than 12 hours left at least four people dead and 70 others injured in Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed on Sunday.

The attacks, which is reportedly one of the heaviest night-time bombardments in recent months, saw nearly 600 drones and dozens of missiles launched against seven regions.

Many of the projectiles targeted the capital, Kyiv, where all four fatalities occurred, including a 12-year-old girl.

Emergency services reported that a strike on the city’s Institute of Cardiology killed both a nurse and a patient. Residential buildings, a major bakery, and an automobile rubber plant were also hit.

“This vile attack shows that Russia wants to continue fighting and killing,” Zelenskyy said.

He vowed that Ukraine would retaliate and urged Europe and the United States to deliver a “strong reaction.”

Ukraine’s Regional authorities confirmed widespread damage across Zaporizhzhia, Khmelnytskyi, Sumy, Mykolaiv, Chernihiv, and Odesa.

Zaporizhzhia’s governor said 31 people were injured, including three children, while Sumy recorded the death of a 59-year-old man.

The bombardment coincided with the close of the UN General Assembly week, which Zelenskyy said shows Russia’s “real position” on diplomacy.

He backed President Donald Trump’s warning of tougher sanctions and called on European allies to further restrict Russian oil and gas imports.

Trump, who recently said Ukraine could reclaim lost territory as Russia’s economy struggles, has been left frustrated by Russia’s reluctance to engage in peace talks.

Meanwhile, NATO states remain on high alert. Poland put its jets on alerts as missiles and drones struck western Ukraine.

Recent airspace breaches by Russia in Poland, Denmark, Estonia, and Romania have increased tensions causing NATO to reinforce its eastern flank.

Russia, however, insists it does not intend to target EU or NATO members, however, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told the UN that any “aggression” against Russia would provoke a “decisive response.”

Zelenskyy warned that if Russia is not stopped in Ukraine, its aggression could spread further across Europe.
