Ronaldo Dedicates 904th Career Goal To Late Father
Cristiano Ronaldo dedicated his 904th career goal to his late father, Jose Dinis Aveiro’s, who would have clocked 71 on Monday.
Ronaldo scored the winner for Al-Nassr in a 2-1 win over Al Rayyan in the AFC Champions League Elite on Monday to maintain their perfect start in the competition.
The strike was Ronaldo’s 904th goal of an illustrious and record-laden career.
He lifted both arms and looked up at the sky during his goal celebration, in memory of his father, who died in 2005 after suffering from liver failure.
Ronaldo revealed that the goal holds a different meaning to him because of his late father.
He said: “Today’s goal had a different flavour, I would love for my father to be alive because today is his birthday.
“It was a strong and difficult match like all the matches in the AFC Champions League, but the most important thing is that we created many chances and defended well to prevent the opponent from creating easy chances,
“It is not important anymore whether I am the best or not, I no longer care about that. It is good for a player to score goals, but for me, it is better for the team to win.
“I still love playing football and I know I don’t have much time left on the pitch.”
Ronaldo became the first men’s player in history to score 900 goals, but he admitted that he doesn’t have much time left in his career.
He said, “Records are part of me, and I’m used to breaking them. The most important thing is not to be considered the best player or win prizes. The important thing is to enjoy and be useful to the club and the national team.
“I’ve felt pressure since the first day and I think I will feel it until the last.”
Ronaldo became the top scorer in a single season in the Saudi Pro League last May with 35 goals.
