Rivers: Suspects in attack on LG Sole Administrator surrender to Police

The Rivers State Police Command says the suspects accused of assaulting the Sole Administrator of Ahoada East Local Government Area, Goodluck Iheanachor, have turned themselves in.

The Command had earlier declared Mr. Hector Ekakita, former Chief Security Officer of the LGA, and Mr. Aloni Olodi, former Chief of Staff, wanted on July 6, 2025, in connection with “the alleged Criminal Conspiracy/Stealing/Assault Occasioning Harm on Iheanachor”.

In a statement on Friday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed that both suspects voluntarily reported to the Rivers State Police Command headquarters on Moscow Road, Port Harcourt.

Iringe-Koko stated that the suspects were interviewed by the Commissioner of Police and his management team.

Following the preliminary interview, she muted that they were handed over to the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, for further investigation.

The police further advised “anyone with useful information that can assist in the ongoing investigation to come forward”.

The statement emphasized that public cooperation is essential to achieving justice, stating that “the public’s cooperation and assistance are invaluable in ensuring that justice is served”.

“The Command remains committed to maintaining law and order in Rivers State and assures the public that the investigation will be thorough and transparent,” the statement added.

In June, a video surfaced on social media showing youths from Ahoada East Local Government Area assaulting the sole administrator of the LGA.

In the video, obtained by DAILY POST, Iheanachor was seen being physically attacked with sticks and matchetes by individuals alleged to be from the local community.

The council secretary, Alabi Umegbewe, was also seen being assaulted by the same group of youths.

The video also showed Iheanachor being compelled to sign what appeared to be a resignation letter.

However, the administrator later refuted the contents of the letter, denying authoring it.

In a statement, he claimed he was attacked at the council premises by a group of individuals, and insisted the resignation letter being shared on social media was fabricated.
