Rivers Police Arrests Suspected Cultists Linked To Late SP Bako’s Murder
The Rivers State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in its efforts to combat cultism and violent crimes in the state.
A statement from the Command signed the Spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, said following credible intelligence, operatives attached to the Octopus Tactical Unit successfully arrested two cultists/murder suspects linked to the murder of late SP Bako Angbashim, the then DPO of Ahoada Division.
Iringe-Koko said on May 3, 2025, police operatives received credible information regarding the whereabouts of a notorious cultist known as Aka “K1,” a member of the late 2Baba Iceland cult group.
The police swiftly stormed the suspect’s camp in Ikata Community, Ahoada East LGA, and arrested Lovegod Goodluck, a male resident of Ikata Community.
She added that during the operation, one locally made single-barrel gun and two live cartridges were recovered from him.
“In a follow-up operation on June 13, 2025, operatives arrested Precious Olumini, a male suspect who had earlier escaped. An English-made pump-action gun and a locally made pistol were recovered from him. During interrogation, suspects confessed to being members of the dreaded Iceland cult group that has been terrorizing the Ahoada-East axis of the state.
“Investigation and Efforts to Apprehend Fleeing Members
The suspects and exhibits are currently in police custody, and investigations are ongoing. The police are intensifying efforts to apprehend other fleeing members of the syndicate and recover their operational weapons.”
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, has assured citizens that the police command remains resolute in its determination to ensure the safety and security of lives and property in the state.
CP Adepoju urged citizens to cooperate with the police in their efforts to rid communities of violent and criminal elements.
He reiterated that the police command is committed to tackling cultism and other related crimes in the state, saying the recent arrests demonstrate their commitment to keeping the public safe.
