Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara has declared that the Rivers State local government election scheduled to hold on October 5, 2024 will hold and conducted as the most peaceful and credible elections in the State.

Governor Fubara said he has already received briefing from the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, (RSIEC) on Court order mandating the agency to conduct the elections in the State, with the full support of security agencies, assuring that the State electoral empire will be given the necessary supports to conduct the elections successfully.

The Governor disclosed this while addressing newsmen at Rumuolumeni, Port Harcourt, shortly after the inspection of the Trans -Kalabari Road Project which he described as a legacy project of his administration.

“Our election will hold on October 5. I am aware that RSIEC told me they already have an order mandating them to conduct the election on 5th and the security agencies should support them.”

“So, I think with that order the election will hold. I might not be a lawyer, but there is something they call first in hand and since they have the first in hand we will give them all the necessary support for that election to be conducted and it will be one of the best elections ever conducted in Rivers State, free and fair in this State.”.

The Governor expressed dissatisfaction over the pace of work done by the contractors on the Trans-Kalabari road and urged them to expedite action on the project to meet the delivery targets.

“We are in Rumuolumeni which is the starting point of the Trans-Kalabari road project. From here if you remember when we came to flag-off this road, it is a project that will connect the Bakana people to the city. “

“So, we just came for inspection to see the progress of the job. I can say I am not too impressed but considering the terrain it is not a normal strong land where you just clean the earth and lay asphalt, I need more speed because it is a very important project to me. As a matter of fact I see it as one of my legacy projects. So it is important that I achieve it before we complete our tenure.”

Governor Fubara also paid a visit to the (RSIEC) office and charged the Electoral body to ensure the conduct of a free, fair and credible local government elections in the state and report any infraction by anybody and he is prepared to defend the State as the Chief Security officer.

“I went for an inspection, but I have been informed of some people planning to come here, so I decided to come. I hope everything is going on well. That is the most important thing I want to hear.”

“What is important to me is that Rivers State has to be alive, it doesn’t belong to anybody. I don’t care who nominated you, but do the right thing.”

“If we make a mistake today, it is going to live with us forever. Chairman, nobody has the right to interrupt the process, this is Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, it belongs to Rivers State and I am the Governor, so if there is anything let me know, I will come here personally.”
