Rivers LG Chair Presents N12.495bn Appropriation For 2025 Fiscal Year
The Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Council in Rivers State, Chijioke Ihunwo proposed a budget of N12.495 billion for the 2025 fiscal year to the 10th Obio/Akpor Legislative Council.
Tagged “Budget of Service to Obio/Akpor People,” the proposal aimed to promote rapid growth and development in the local government area.
According to Ihunwo, the budget will be funded through various sources, including statutory allocation from FAAC, Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), unspecified revenue, and opening balance.
The proposed budget allocates N6.5 billion for recurrent expenditure, which includes N2.8 million for personal costs, N2.8 million for overhead costs, and N46 million for social benefits.
Additionally, N5.869 billion has been earmarked for capital projects, such as construction of roads, building of markets and schools, empowerment programs for the people through soft loans, and distribution of transformers to communities.
Ihunwo appealed to the legislative council to expedite the passage of the budget to enable the executive arm to deliver effective services to the people.
He highlighted the council’s achievements in the past 100 days, including the construction of a new chairman’s office, distribution of official vehicles, and provision of grants for Master’s and PhD students.
In his remarks, the leader of the 10th Obio/Akpor Legislative Council, Nyeche Owhonogwu, praised Ihunwo and his team for their achievements and pledged the lawmakers’ support for the budget.
The budget has passed its first reading and has been forwarded to the committee on finance and appropriation for further action.
Ihunwo was accompanied to the budget presentation by the Vice Chairman of the council, Mrs. Sophia Amarachi Nkoro, the Secretary of the council, Hon. Prince Aruchi C. Amechi and other top officials of the council.
