Ricky Hatton: Foden, Keane, others react to death of ex-World Boxing champion
Manchester City star Phil Foden has joined other football icons in paying tribute to former world boxing champion Ricky Hatton.
Recall that Hatton, a die-hard Man City supporter, died on Sunday morning at the age of 46.
He was found dead at his home on Bowlacre Road in Gee Cross, Hyde, Greater Manchester.
Reacting, Foden told Sky Sports before Manchester City’s 3-0 win against Manchester United: “My heart goes out to his family at this time.
“Obviously to hear the news before a big game is devastating and I’m sure he would have been here today supporting us.”
Also reacting, former Manchester United star Roy Keane added: “The guy was a warrior, that is why the fans loved watching him in that ring.
“We know how tough that sport is but my God, he gave everything for that sport and that is why fans followed him.”
Similarly, former Manchester City defender Micah Richards said: “The news is devastating. I was taken back to be honest.
“He is such an icon, a British icon, boxing and sport. True Man City fan but most importantly, he was a man of the people.”
