Delta ministry, education board clash over staff postings
The Delta State Ministry of Secondary Education has vowed to subdue the Post Primary Education Board, PPEB, for what it described as an affront.
The disagreement stems from conflicting postings of teaching and non-teaching staff carried out by both the ministry and the board.
While the ministry recently redeployed some staff to other schools, PPEB issued its own postings in contradiction to those directives.
On September 11, 2025, the ministry instructed principals of public secondary schools across the state to ensure compliance by teachers affected by the transfer exercise, warning that principals and teachers who failed to comply risked sanctions.
The Delta State Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs Rose Ezewu, noted that the ministry observed some teachers were still in their old schools despite having been transferred. She warned that any teacher found culpable would be dealt with decisively in accordance with civil service regulations.
In her statement, Ezewu recalled that many of the affected teachers had remained in their previous schools for too long. She reminded them that the postings were in order and followed due process.
However, on Saturday, September 13, 2025, PPEB issued supplementary postings of teaching, non-teaching, and vice-principalship cadre staff.
In a counter directive issued on Sunday, September 14, 2025, Ezewu faulted PPEB and ordered the cancellation of the supplementary postings.
She said: “Furthermore, any Principal who fails to release affected staff back to their original schools, as directed, shall face disciplinary action in line with extant regulations.
“All affected staff are hereby instructed to return immediately to their original places of primary assignment as contained in the initial official posting made prior to school resumption.
“Similarly, staff members who disregard this directive will be sanctioned accordingly. This circular takes immediate effect and must be treated with utmost urgency.”
