‘Really disappointing’ – Rio Ferdinand on Mason Mount’s career at Man United

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has admitted it has been “really, really disappointing” to see how Mason Mount’s career has unfolded at Old Trafford.

According to Ferdinand, the England international will approach the new season “like a new signing” for the Red Devils, having barely featured since joining the club due to injury setbacks.

Mount left Chelsea for Manchester United in the summer of 2023, with the Red Devils paying a reported £55 million fee for the midfielder.

However, he has so far failed to live up to expectations, registering just four goals and one assist from 46 appearances, while missing around 50 games over two seasons through injury.

Ferdinand told talkSPORT that the midfielder has all it takes to thrive at Old Trafford.

“I saw him out in Chicago and one of the things I said to him was, ‘How are you feeling?’ Because he’s been robbed of any minutes really for injury. It’s been really, really disappointing to see.

“I’m sure he’s been in some dark moments. He will be like a new signing.”

Manchester United finished 15th in the Premier League last season and will be desperate to bounce back. The Red Devils also missed out on Champions League football after losing the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur.
