Paris Saint-Germain defender, Achraf Hakimi is facing up to 15 years in prison if indicted and convicted of rape, after a formal request by French prosecutors to move forward with criminal proceedings. Le Parisien reports that the case stems from an accusation made in early 2023.
The Nanterre prosecutor’s office has formally requested that Hakimi be indicted before the Hauts-de-Seine departmental criminal court.
The request, signed on 1 August follows more than 12 months of investigation.
The move doesn’t constitute guilt, but it signals that prosecutors believe there is sufficient evidence to warrant a trial.
Recall that on March 3, 2023, Hakimi was officially charged with rape by an investigating judge.
The former Real Madrid star was placed under judicial supervision after being taken into custody.
Since then, the former Inter Milan player has consistently denied any wrongdoing.
