The Pro-Wike Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, has urged the House Committee on Public Complaints and Petitions to expedite action in submitting its report on the October 7 local government disturbances.

The directive was given during the House’s 77th Legislative Sitting on Thursday.

The disturbances, which occurred on October 7, 2024, affected some local government council secretariats in the state.

The Speaker reminded the Committee of Section 128 of the 1999 Constitution, which empowers the House to conduct investigations.

He urged the Committee to accelerate the process, ensuring that all parties involved receive a fair hearing.

Earlier, the Chairman of the House Committee on Public Complaints and Petitions, Enemi George, presented preliminary reports on some petitions before the Committee.

He assured the House that due diligence was being taken to ensure that everybody concerned received a fair hearing.

The Committee is expected to present its reports on the various petitions and investigations before long.
