Police Recover Arms, Ammunition From Ozoro Forest In Delta
The Nigeria Police Force has recovered firearms and ammunition from a forest hideout in Ozoro, Delta State, and rescued kidnap victims in Katsina State.
Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, disclosed this on Friday in Abuja.
According to Adejobi, the operations were carried out in response to persistent criminal activities in both states.
In Katsina State, a joint security task force disrupted a kidnap attempt on June 8 along the Danmusa–Mara Dangeza road in Danmusa Local Government Area.
The operatives engaged a group of armed bandits who were attempting to flee with abducted individuals.
Adejobi stated, “The operatives successfully overpowered the criminals, forcing them to flee with gunshot injuries and successfully rescued 11 victims unhurt.”
In Delta State, operatives from the CP-Special Assignment Team, acting on intelligence, arrested Abubakar Hassan (30).
Hassan was identified as a member of a “cross-state kidnapping syndicate operating within Delta, Rivers, Imo, and Enugu States.”
Adejobi explained that during interrogation, Hassan admitted to coordinating operations along the “Ughelli-Ozoro axis”.
According to the Force PRO, Hassan subsequently directed the officers to a forest hideout in Ozoro, where police recovered “two AK-47 rifles, four magazines, and thirty-two rounds of live ammunition.”
Hassan’s arrest is tied to earlier apprehensions of three other members of the same gang.
In another incident, officers conducting routine stop-and-search duties along Ughelli Road intercepted a vehicle.
A search of the vehicle uncovered a locally fabricated revolver, a pump-action single-barrel rifle, and fifteen rounds of live cartridges.
The driver, Obi Ezekiel (38), was arrested.
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, commended the officers involved in the operations and reiterated the Force’s commitment to addressing violent crime nationwide.
He urged police commands across the country to sustain efforts to ensure there is no safe haven for criminals.
