…Teen Arrested For Removing Sister’s Eyes In Bauchi

The Borno State Police Command has launched an investigation into the alleged suicide of a young woman in Gubio Local Government Area after she was reportedly forced by her father to marry one of his friends.

The incident, which occurred around 6:20 p.m., reportedly followed intense family pressure on the victim to go into the arranged marriage.

According to counterinsurgency expert and security analyst, Zagazola Makama, the woman took her life after enduring days of resistance.

Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso, said the Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, had ordered an investigation to verify circumstances surrounding the report.

“The attention of the Command has been drawn to a viral publication circulating on various social media platforms, alleging that a young woman in Gubio Local Government Area took her own life after being forced by her father to marry one of his friends.

“The Command is committed to establishing the true facts of the matter and therefore calls on individuals with credible and verifiable information to come forward and assist the Police in the ongoing investigation,” Daso stated.

He urged members of the public to avoid spreading unverified reports that could cause panic or distort facts about the case.

“While the Command remains dedicated to protecting the rights, safety, and dignity of all citizens, it also warns that spreading false or misleading information is punishable under the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015,” he warned.

Daso assured residents that the Command remains committed to ensuring justice and maintaining peace in the state.

In a separate development, the Bauchi State Police Command said it has arrested a 17-year-old boy, Auwal Dahiru, along with five other suspects, for allegedly plucking out the eyes of his seven-year-old sister, Rukayya Muhammad, for a suspected money ritual.

The Command’s spokesperson, SP Ahmed Wakil, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday. He said the disturbing act occurred in Bayan Dutse Village, Wailo, Kubi Ward, Ganjuwa Local Government Area, and was reported to the Soro Divisional Police Headquarters on Friday, October 17, 2025, by one Muhammad Adamu of the same village.

Wakil said the Divisional Police Officer, SP Aliyu Goni, led his team to the scene, where the suspect was arrested. The young victim was immediately taken to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, for treatment.

“A preliminary investigation’s findings exposed that a 7-year-old girl, Rukayya Muhammad, tragically lost her eyesight permanently after her elder brother, Auwalu Muhammad, removed both of her eyes for a money ritual in a desperate attempt to gain wealth.

“The victim’s father was interviewed, who disclosed that the suspect (Auwalu) lured his sister, who shared the same parents, into the bush, where he brutally attacked her and forcefully plucked her eyes.

“Unfortunately, a medical doctor (eye specialist) at the hospital confirmed that the young girl will never regain her vision for the rest of her life,” Wakil revealed.

Wakil said five other suspects—identified as Mohammed Rabiu (19), Saleh Ibrahim (20), Nasiru Muhammad, Hassan Garba, and Garba Dahiru (43)—were also apprehended in connection with the case.

He added that all the suspects confessed to the crime during interrogation, and the investigation was ongoing to uncover the motive and identify any additional accomplices.

“The investigation is ongoing to uncover the motive behind their heinous act and bring all individuals connected to justice,” Wakil added.
