Suspect

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has neutralised a suspected cultist in Uyo, the state capital.

The command said it acted on intelligence to storm the residence of Kingsley Effiong Emmanuel, ‘m’, 26, at Nsukara Offot, Nwaniba Road, Uyo.

A thorough search of the premises led to the recovery of a locally made pistol, which the suspect was said to be using to terrorise innocent members of the public.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, said in a statement on Sunday that preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect has been directly involved in disrupting the peace and order of the community and its environs through his criminal activities.

“The Akwa Ibom State Police Command is not only vigilant but also strategically positioned to track and dismantle any criminal network.

“Let it be known that Akwa Ibom is not a haven for criminals. Those who choose to continue their unlawful activities will be smoked out, apprehended and made to face the full wrath of the law.”

“Azare urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with the police by providing credible information, assuring them of prompt and decisive action,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, the command has received 384 newly recruited constables at its headquarters in Uyo.

They were part of the 10,000 newly recruited personnel who recently completed their training and were posted to various commands across the country.

Addressing the recruits during the reception, CP Azare congratulated them on their enlistment into the Nigeria Police, describing it as a call to selfless service and a responsibility to uphold justice and protect lives and property.

He charged the recruits to embrace discipline, professionalism, and total obedience to the law as the foundation of their careers.

The CP warned that the Command would not tolerate any misconduct or corruption, emphasising that the era of impunity in the Force is over.

He reiterated the importance of respecting citizens’ fundamental human rights in their duties. He also reminded the recruits of the IGP’s strict social media policy, cautioning that anyone misusing social media platforms in ways that tarnish the image of the Force would face dire consequences.

The CP did not mince words in urging recruits with ulterior motives to reconsider their stance, stressing that the Akwa Ibom Command operates on zero tolerance for corruption and unethical practices under his watch.

He urged them to imbibe the values of integrity, transparency, and accountability as they begin their journey in policing.
