A police Inspector and a civilian have been killed following an attack by suspected herders on Ipelle village in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State.
Sources revealed to counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama that the slain officer, identified as Inspector Daniel Omanyebu, was attached to the Ipelle Police Outpost under Agatu Division.
According to reports, the attack prompted the deployment of police tactical units, including Operation Zenda, the Police Mobile Force (PMF), Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), and divisional patrol teams to the area.
According to Makama, the Area Commander, Otukpo, has since relocated to Agatu to coordinate and supervise ongoing security operations.
Authorities confirmed that the body of Inspector Omanyebu has been recovered and deposited at the mortuary.
The Benue State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has taken over the case, while efforts are underway to track down and arrest the assailants.
